Everybody knows that fruits are important for a healthy diet however it just happens that we find it easy to skip on them as we do on regular meals! I will not talk about why fruits in general are great for us but what is the POWER in these so called Power Fruits and which ones you could easily add to your repertoire for a balanced diet!
All the fuss around Acai definitely not for nothing! According to Dr. Perricone these berries have a remarkable concentration of antioxidants which are proven to fight premature aging, and they contain 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes which really is a LOT!
Plus Acai has a combination of monounsaturated fats(these are the healthy kind), Dietary Fiber and phytosterols which are proven to help cardiovascular and digestive health.
And just to top on that the close to perfection amino acid complex found in these berries as well as trace minerals which are essential for proper muscle degeneration make this by far the number one Power Fruit.
However this fruit is native to South America and the rainforest of Amazon so if it’s something you can’t get your hands on you can replace with either acai powder which can be easily found or blueberries or any type of berries which are also very rich in antioxidants and they resemble the benefits of Acai and will contribute to a balanced diet!
Pomegranates do deserve to be in the top Power fruits! Where I come from they are as easy to find in the wild and quite cheap to buy. They really are quite difficult to eat because it takes time to peel but they are totally worth it!
Pomegranates are the highest in Vitamin K and Selenium and they have become so known due to the high antioxidant concentration that is proven to help in heart health as well as visual and brain function! It is also one of the very few fruits that help preventing very common diseases like Alzheimer’s and diabetes.
This power fruit can be hard to find sometimes but it’s juice has become quite fashionable and should be able to be found in plenty of stores around the globe.
One of the most common fruits the Orange seems to also have its place high in the rank of power fruits. Oranges are a great source of vitamin C and flavonoids and just by having one orange you supply your body with almost 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.
The orange is known to have extraordinary benefits in our health due to the fact that they also contain vitamin A, B, amino acids and plenty of other nutrients and anti-cancer agents! In simpler terms all these help you stay healthy , balanced, lowering your cholesterol dropping your blood pressure and even preventing cancer. The list of benefits by this Power fruit is really long! Just don’t forget to throw one in your bag today!
Tadaaa!! The apple is in the list! I was so glad to find out that a few of the fruits available to everybody are some of the so called Power Fruits. Yes the apple is a Power fruit and it owes it all to its red or green color.
The Apples are a wonderful source of fiber and their skin contains quercetin which apparently is an antioxidant that has anti inflammatory power and can also help protecting you from heart diseases and allergic reactions.
A personal favourite the banana! I love this fruit because its really easy to eat and its ridiculously delicious! On top of that it is a great source of potassium which lowers the risk of high blood pressure and stroke as well as playing a major role in muscle function.
Bananas are full of energy and are great Gym buddies! Before and after and with just 120 calories in each you can be certain that NO they don’t get you fat!
Always remember balance is key but when it comes to fruits the more you have the merrier!
